Learn More about One World Trade Center

One World Trade Center has 69 business floors, restaurants and an observation deck, among other things. The skyscraper also serves as a transmitter. Below the building there is a shopping centre and access to public transport. In total, there are 104 floors. The observation platform, the One World Observatory, is located on floors 100, 101 and 102. Measured from the ground to the balustrade, the skyscraper measures 417 metres. The height is the same as the Twin Towers. Until the attacks of 11 September 2001, the Twin Towers could be seen in Lower Manhattan. One World Trade Center was built next to the site of the Twin Towers. After 9/11, it took a year and a half to clean up the site. After the clean-up, an architectural competition was held to rebuild the site of the new World Trade Center. The Polish-born American Daniel Libeskind won the competition. The World Trade Center site consists of six buildings including One World Trade Center. In Libeskind's design, the original footprints of the Twin Towers have been transformed into a memorial: the 9/11 Memorial. Part of the World Trade Center Master Plan also incorporates the Performing Arts Center, which can be found on the site. The 9/11 Memorial was opened in September 2011, in honour of the victims of the 9/11 attacks. The memorial consists of two square pools located in the footprints of the Twin Towers. There is a stela bearing the names of all the victims of the attacks. The whole area is surrounded by water and trees. A visit is highly recommended.
